Could a Minor League baseball team be on its way to Central Flroida? That’s the big question. At this time, there is no idea of how much it would cost to build a stadium to house a minor league team, and those trying to bring a minor league team here aren’t ready to discuss it.
Businessman Armando Gutierrez told a packed house Thursday, “We have multiple options for financing for this project. We are going to get in more details as the project develops.”
Earl knocks out Tony Orlando concert in Nassau

That’s right, the Tony Orlando concert scheduled for tomorrow at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park has been rescheduled to Sept. 8 due to Earl’s.
French railway faces criticism in US for WWII role

The French national railway’s hope to bid on the first high-speed tracks in the United States is running into resistance from Holocaust survivors because of the company’s role in transporting Jews to Nazi death camps.
One of those leading the charge against the railway is Florida resident Rosette Goldstein, whose father was taken away by Nazi soldiers, shoved in a cattle train and delivered to his death during World War II. Goldstein plans to voice her opposition on behalf of many Holocaust survivors to the railway Thursday when the Florida Department of Transportation holds a public meeting in Orlando on the $2.6 billion high-speed rail project, which would connect Tampa and Orlando.
AirTran fined $500k for violating

Orlando-based AirTran Airways has been assessed a half-million dollar civil penalty by the Department of Transportation for multiple violations of federal disability regulations. First and foremost of the violations was failture to provide proper assistance with boarding by disabled passengers. Other violations included a lack of proper written response to passenger complaints and failing to properly categorize complaints in the required reports to the DOT.
Kuchar, Uihlein wins give Orlando a golf double

Orlando has a new U.S. Amateur champion to celebrate. And Sunday was a banner day for the last U.S. Amateur winner to call this area home – jumping to the top of the PGA Tour’s points race.
Peter Uihlein, who began calling Orlando home last summer, captured the 110th U.S. Amateur by outlasting David Chung in a final that went 34 holes at Chambers Bay in Washington.
Hand Grenade Brought to Orlando Station

A bomb squad had to blow up a live hand grenade Thursday in Orlando. Investigators were so concerned when it was brought to the police station by an elderly woman that they evacuated the area around Silver Star Road near Willow Bend Boulevard.
An unexpected and potentially explosive delivery shut down the Orlando Police Department’s northwest community substation. The live grenade also prompted a call to the city’s arson bomb squad and forced the evacuation of area businesses.
SeaWorld trainer’s death tramautized boy

A New Hampshire family who witnessed the death of a SeaWorld trainer by a killer whale is suing the Orlando theme park.
Suzanne and Todd Connell filed the lawsuit Tuesday, a day after the federal job safety agency fined SeaWorld Orlando $75,000 for three violations uncovered during an investigation into trainer Dawn Brancheau’s death. Brancheau died in February when a killer whale known as Tilikium dragged her into a pool.
Orlando man found in Atlanta-area hotel

An Orlando man who had gone missing while in Atlanta on business was found early today, more than a week after he disappeared.
Randal Race, 46, was found “in good physical condition,” at a Red Roof Inn on North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County, Ga., at around 4:30 a.m. today, police said.
Orlando businessman missing in Georgia

An Orlando businessman in Cobb County for work told his co-workers he wasn’t feeling well last Tuesday and said he planned to return to his hotel room. He hasn’t been seen since, police said.
After he didn’t show up for work Wednesday or Thursday, Randal Race, 46, missed his Friday flight back home, and his rental car was never returned, said Officer Joseph Hernandez with Cobb County police.
SeaWorld Orlando fined $75,000 in whale trainer’s death

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced $75,000 in fines for SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment.
The fines are related to safety violations found during a 6-month investigation at SeaWorld Orlando, following the February death of killer whale trainer Dawn Brancheau.
Brancheau drowned in a tank at SeaWorld after being grabbed and pulled under by a killer whale used in the Shamu shows at the theme park.
